About
Barry Gaston, Nurse Practitioner at Aspire Functional Medicine
Helping men achieve their full potential through male directed health and wellness protocols with a focus on hormonal therapies and lifestyle interventions.
After working for 20 years as a Nurse Practitioner, primarily in occupational medicine and primarily with men, Barry Gaston, N.P., realized that men were not the best stewards of their health. “A man’s most common reason for being seen was either trauma or because their significant others told them to,” says Gaston. This observation led him to pursue the development of a men’s health program focused not only on treatment, but also education to provide men with tools to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
Gaston then became associated with Dr. Larry Brock and the Regenerative Medicine Center of Alabama. Dr. Brock was one of the earliest in the area to embrace functional and regenerative (anti-aging) medicine. With him, Gaston was able to become involved with men’s health issues and treatment with, among other things, testosterone therapy. “Low T” is quite common, can be influenced by many factors, and is not just an older man’s issue. Getting one’s hormones balanced and optimized can be life changing.
Gaston continued with the Regenerative Medicine Center after it was acquired by Dr. Kristin
Kalmbacher and then until the Mobile location closed in 2022. He now works withDr. Luke
Fondren, DO, and Jan Wood, Ph.D., CRNP, at Aspire Functional Medicine. Fondren is trained in
family medicine and is developing a practice based on the idea that family medicine should
be focused on the optimization of health at all ages through a combination of appropriate use of pharmacologic intervention when warranted, but with an emphasis on lifestyle interventions. Wood is a women’s health advocate whose focus is on using an integrative approach to treat patients experiencing menopausal symptoms. Together, they aspire to help you feel your best while achieving and maintaining optimal health at any age.
